Under the “Anticipatory Action to Vulnerable Households in Flood-Prone Areas of the Padma River Basin, Bangladesh: Shock Responsive Social Protection (SRSP) and Flood Anticipatory Action (AA) Programme,” a preparedness meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) of Madaripur was held with financial support from the World Food Programme (WFP) and implementation support from SDS (Shariatpur Development Society).
The objective of the meeting was to strengthen the capacity of disaster management committees at the district, upazila, union, and ward levels, along with key government departments, in order to anticipate, prepare for, and respond effectively to recurrent riverine floods.
By investing in anticipatory action and early preparedness, the initiative seeks to minimize disaster-related losses and safeguard the lives, livelihoods, and assets of vulnerable communities in flood-prone areas. This collaborative effort reflects a proactive approach to disaster risk reduction and underscores the importance of coordinated action among government bodies, development partners, and local actors.
The meeting was presided over by Ms. Yasmin Akhter, District Commissioner of Madaripur, and attended by senior officials from both district and upazila administrations. Ms. Tasnim Tabassum, Program Associate at WFP, was present as a special guest.
Representing SDS, Ms. Amala Das, Deputy Director (HR), along with Project Coordinator Mr. Mahfuzul Haque and other project staff, participated in the meeting and shared their insights and updates on project implementation.
