In the Char areas of Shariatpur district, river erosion leads to not only the destruction of homes and livelihoods but also significant non-economic loss and damage, including the erosion of cultural identity, mental health deterioration, and the breakdown of social cohesion.
To address one challenge on health, SDS integrates free health support services into its Non-Economic Loss and Damage Special Initiative project by organizing community-based Health Camp at Kunderchar union under Jazira Upazila focused on health facilities for pregnant mothers, children and adolescent girls those who are deprived from health services due to living at char area. The patients got medical facilities under this event by special doctors Md. Sanowar Hossain Khan, MBBS, Assistant Director (CC) and Md. Zakir Hossain, MBBS, Health Department, Jazira Upazila while Assistant coordinator, SDS Mahabub Alam, Project Coordinator Abdur Razzaq,k MEAL Officer Nazrul Islam and FO Tamim Hossain, Ashfak Ahmmed and Shafayet Hossain Shaon were present to assist for running the camp.

Funded by Educo Bangladesh and implemented by SDS, the Youth Conference organized by the YES4ECO project at the auditorium of the Shilpakala Academy in Zanjira Upazila, organized by the youth, included eco-friendly stalls, group music, choreography, open discussion and consultation meetings.
The discussion meeting was held in the presence of 90 youth from 3 villages of Zanjira Upazila, teachers, project beneficiaries, dignitaries, upazila government officials, and guardians.
Mr. Md. Shah Alam (Upazila Social Service Officer, Zanjira) was present as the chief guest, Mr. Md. Omar Faruk (Upazila Agriculture Officer, Zanjira), Mr. Sumon Chowdhury (Upazila Public Health Engineer, Zanjira), Mr. Abdur Rahman Howlader (Zanjira Union Parishad Chairman) was present as the special guest.
Mr. Rabeya Begum, Executive Director of SDS, was present as the president of the program. And Mr. Amala Das (Deputy Director, Human Resources Department) and other officials were present on behalf of the organization.

Urgent action is needed in Bangladesh, where over 14,000 children lose their lives to drowning each year, making it the second leading cause of death for children under five, as reported by WHO and UNICEF.
The YES4ECO project, implemented by SDS in partnership with EDUCO, has provided swimming and water safety lessons to ninety children aged 5-12 in three villages at Shariatpur. With promising results, the project is set to expand to benefit more children.
A youth-led survey and action plan identified a critical issue: children in the villages lack swimming skills due to the absence of open water bodies, safety lessons, and instructors. This initiative, part of risk reduction due to climate change, aims to address these findings.

On 27 January 2025 Ineke ten Dam (Senior Expart, PUM) the Netherlands visited SDS head office at shariatpur. On that day a brief meeting organized by SDS where presented honorable Executive Director Ms. Rabeya Begum, Mr. BM Kamroul Hassan (Director, MF, SDS) and Md Mahabub Alam (Program Coordinator, SDS) and set up a planning for upcoming activities with Ineke.
From the date of 28 January 2025 and till to the time, she observed STTI (SDS Technical Training Institute), Training classes, different labs, facilities and equipment’s like IT & Freelancing, Tailoring, Plumbing, Mobile Servicing, and Care Giving unit and talked with the Trainers and trainees. She instructed to the particular instructors, trainers and Principle of STTI for strengthening their capacity and proficiency. Ms. Ineke also observed some training sessions based on different projects like Agriculture, livestock, Aquaculture and wanted to know the trainees expectations and attitude towards the training. She also visited different locations for meeting with the STTI graduates and observing their present situation. Ms. Ineke was highly impressed observing the graduates and their businesses’ that was started after graduation. Finally, She organized a 4 days long T o T on Training Methodologies – Advanced level with the particular trainers those are conducting different training at STTI and SDS. She was highly appreciated following all particular activities of SDS. On 06 February 2025 at evening Ms. Ineke left Shariatpur with a positive attitude.

A two-day workshop was held at the SDS Head Office on the review of the strategic plan of SDS for the next 6 years (2025-2030).
The organization’s Executive Director, Ms. Rabeya Begum, inaugurated the workshop. The workshop was attended by Ms. Advocate Rashida Mirza (Member, Executive Committee, SDS), Mr. BM Kamroul Hassan (Director, MF), Mr. MD. Easin Khan (Deputy Director, Finance and Accounts), Ms. Amala Das (Deputy Director, HR), various project heads and other officials.
Ms. Farzana Khan, a Strategic Planning Specialist, conducted the workshop sessions.

Implemented through SDS and funded by WFP (World Food Programme). “Anticipatory Action to vulnerable households in flood-prone areas of Padma river basin, Bangladesh. Under Shock Responsive Social Protection (SRSP) and Flood Anticipatory Action (AA) Programme”a field exercise was conducted in total 13 unions of Shariatpur and Madaripur districts in the Padma Basin based on flood forecasting in advance response program titled “Padma Parer Jiban Juddha”. In the mock drill, everyone is made aware of what to do before the disaster, during the disaster and after the disaster.
Upazila executive officer, upazila project implementation officer, upazila secondary education officer, local school teachers, chairman, dignitaries of the area and general public supported this activity by attending the mock drill.

Shock Responsive Social Protection (SRSP) and Flood Anticipatory Action (AA) Programme”এর আওতায় শরীয়তপুর ও মাদারীপুর জেলার মোট ১৩টি ইউনিয়নে পদ্মা অববাহিকায় বন্যার পূর্বাভাসভিত্তিক আগাম সাড়াদান কর্মসূচি “পদ্মা পাড়ের জীবন যুদ্ধ” শিরোনামে মাঠ মহড়া অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। মহড়ায় দুর্যোগ পূর্ববর্তী, দুর্যোগ কালীন ও দুর্যোগ পরবর্তী সময়ে আমাদের করণীয় বিষয়ে সকলকে সচেতন করা হয়।
উক্ত মাঠ মহড়ায় উপজেলা নির্বাহী অফিসার, উপজেলা প্রকল্প বাস্তবায়ন কর্মকর্তা, উপজেলা মাধ্যমিক শিক্ষা অফিসার, স্থানীয় স্কুলের শিক্ষকবৃন্দ, চেয়ারম্যান, এলাকার গণ্যমান্য ব্যক্তিবর্গ ও সাধারণ জনগন উপস্থিত থেকে এই কার্যক্রমে সমর্থন প্রদান করেন।
